NeoPixel refers to the blade type. A neo pixel blade is a light saber blade that contains LEDs within the blade itself. The blade has a strip of up to 256 LEDs (128 per side) depending on length. The LEDs are wired to a PCB at the base of the blade. When the NeoPixel blade is inserted this PCB makes contacts with pins inside the hilt to power and control the blade. NeoPixel blades do not work with baselit sabers.
Both our NeoCore and Proffie NeoCore sabers drive NeoPixel blades.
Our NeoCore sabers are come equipped very similar to their baselit cousins. They are full RGB color changing, flash on clash, blaster deflect, lock up, volume control, 2 blade effects, and 6-9 sound fonts. The board sounds, effects, and functions can not be modified by the end user. Everything is hard coded. Its ideal for the person who has no intent on modding it. You get the brightness and scroll on/off effects you dont get with baselit and its a little cheaper than proffie. Its also worth noting by default the NeoCore will handle things like sleep mode and volume control better than proffie because everything is hard coded.
The Proffie NeoPixel is a horse of a different color. The saber comes with a config that highlights alot of proffie capabilities. The proffie can do things like melt effects where the tip glows, localized flash on clash, etc. It is also moddable and programable. The format itself is open sourced and very popular. You can change the sound fonts up, blade styles, effects, the possiblities are endless. There are rainbow effects, flame effects, you name it. However with that being said the programming is not supported by Crimson Dawn at this time. It is not rocket science to program one, we have had thousands of customers do it on basically a daily basis, but on the other hand it is not easy. You dont just plug in an SD card or micro USB. You have to access the board, flash it using 3rd party open sourced software, and make sure your styles and fonts are properly formatted on the SD card. There are tons of videos and how tos, you just have to know going in we do not support modding it currently. It ships with a default config that is either open sourced or we have permission to ship. So sound fonts, blade effects, styles, etc can vary at the current time. Crimson Dawns proffie config is still being developed. It is available for download in 2 button but our config will not ship on sabers for another month or so.
